Hard work and consistency pays off....
What a year it has been, my 1st half Marathon of this year was a disaster, 3 hrs and 19 sec I finally completed Discherm, I knew then that my fitness was gone, what did I expect after taking a long year breakπ€? I had a chat with Coach B and he suggested that I should not only focus on running but should compliment it with Strength and core conditioning training as well. Truth be told the strength training didn't come cheap and I had thousand reasons why I couldn't do it, the following day I woke up and my hubby said to me, Babez, if you really want to run comfortably like you say, then you need to go for strength training
After a month of running and strengthening training, I ran another 21km Delloite, My time improved 02:46, Then did OMTOM 02:42.. Most importantly after the race I was feeling great and no more major pains like before....
Then the winter months came unfortunately mine lasted 3 monthsπ€¦πΎββπ€¦πΎββ.... Jun - Aug I did absolutely nothing.... No running and no strengthening, biggest mistake ever, once again I had to start all over again....for the next 2 months I knew I had to be disciplined and go a little extra mile if I still wanted to run Kaapsehoop.
I did exactly that, every weekend I did a LSR, used some of the races as practice and really pushed harder during my strength and core training...
2 Nov I was there among thousands that wanted to do PB, Well it wasn't an easy race, I was just happy that the weather was favorable. Along the route I met couple of JRAC runners, the strength I pulled from running with Annie and Shelz, was out of this world, with 10km to go Annie pushed harder and Shelz and I encouraged each other to the finish, the last 8km was all about Poles and and Cones we were counting π€£π€£ Finally at 04:56 we landed at Mbombela and my net time was 04:51:12. It's all thanks to the JRAC family and the amazing training schedule that the club organise. It's truly important to try different styles of training.
All I can say is with discipline, commitment and consistency... Anything is possible....
Lastly, the support from my family has been my anchor in all this... ππΎAnd I'm grateful to God for these legs ππΎββππΎββππΎ
I'm so happy with what I have achieved, it can only get better from here onwards....
